Psychology

Welcome to my English-speaking psychology practice.
If you landed here, you are probably struggling with personal difficulties, or you might be supporting someone you care for to find the help they need, and you need to know more information about my approach.

I´m a registered psychologist in private practice (Colegio Oficial de la Psicología de Las Palmas, P-02184) located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, providing psychotherapy and personal development services to adults and couples of diverse backgrounds, both in-person and online. I offer services in both English and Spanish.

If you are located in Gran Canaria, you can reach me for an initial phone consultation before booking your appointment. If you live somewhere else, I offer online sessions through video conferencing software, and you can reach me via email.

How do I know which service I need?

Psychological Well-being

The easiest way I have to describe the difference between psychotherapy and a process of personal development is to compare it to a thermometer. Let’s call it the psychological well-being thermometer.
When we are in need of psychotherapy we are in a moment in our life where we do not feel “well”, we do not feel like our “habitual/usual self” and hence, we are not enjoying a state of healthy psychological well-being. We could say that our psychological well-being thermometer is at a low number (let’s say -5ºC) and we need to balance it out to return to our baseline temperature (al least 0ºC). In this case, we need to recover our balance through psychological therapy because our low mood, emotional distress, lack of motivation or interpersonal difficulties prevent us from enjoying our life the way we used to. Some examples that require psychotherapy are high levels of anxiety or depressive mood that limit our life.

However, there are periods in our life when we feel relatively “well”, we have a positive well-being temperature above 0ºC but we feel the need to make some personal or professional changes to increase our life satisfaction. In this case, we do have a positive psychological well-being state, but still we have a lingering mild dissatisfaction that prevents us from going up on the well-being thermometer (we would like to get closer to +10 on the scale). This is the perfect scenario to start a personal development process that will allow us to know ourselves in much greater detail, to get acquainted with our personal strengths and the life values that will guide our decisions towards a more purposeful life.
